about rexword
What it is
rexword formats crossword puzzles and Rows Gardens for the reMarkable 2 e-ink tablet. You download a PDF, solve it with the stylus, upload the annotated result, and rexword scores it — telling you which cells are wrong and which the engine couldn't read clearly.
What it doesn't do
No accounts. No login. No history stored on the server. Uploaded PDFs are processed in memory and discarded the moment the response is sent. The grade JSON and overlay image are returned to you; the server keeps nothing. The only third-party contact is Anthropic's API, which reads the cell crops to recognise your handwriting. See the privacy page for full details.
Who built it
Tom Davis, a crossword solver who got a reMarkable and couldn't find anything that let him solve on it properly. The source is on GitHub. Reach me at hello@rexword.net with bugs, feedback, or hosting requests.
Things I might build next
- More variety puzzle types — Marching Bands, Spiral, A-Frame.
- A smaller, faster recogniser trained on your specific handwriting, so grading is cheaper and works offline.
- Timer integration and Boswords-style scoring for tournament use.
These are interests, not promises. If one of them matters to you, say so — that's the useful signal. hello@rexword.net.
